Item Description
The old historic Baryte specimens from various localities in Cumbria in Northern England are some of the most classic, desirable and iconic examples of the species ever found. You will find these impressive specimens featured in the collections of every major old museum mineral collection worldwide, along with countless private collections. This piece is a fantastic cabinet sized display piece featuring rather large, thick, sharp, lustrous, translucent, pale grey-blue colored tabular crystals measuring up to 9.2 cm long, with minor reddish-brown iron oxide on the underside. Most of the crystals are in good shape, but there are a few dings, ,and one broken crystal on the end, so the piece is not 100% damage free, but it's still a very attractive and impressive example of these old classics that date back to the 1800s. Priced at $4,000 in the inventory. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#33 E), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
