Item Description
A really fine old-time large barite combination plate from the historic Frizington iron mines. A striking, rich jumble of very glassy, transparent to translucent, blue-gray barite spearpoints is aesthetically set on the two-sided matrix plate. The impressive large blade with the gem termination is 6.0 cm and the isolated crystal on the end is 2.8 cm long. There is even a 3.0 cm doubly terminated crystal in the cluster. The plate is covered with contrasting sparkly tiny hematite-tinted calcite rhombs and the bottom of the plate is covered with a myriad of tiny barite blades. The interior is very nearly pristine. It's very hard to see the trivial bit of bruising to a side of the large spearpoint. Comes with a Willy Hirsch label, that dates from the late 1920s? to 1939. Classic, rich and exemplary Frizington barite. Fairly valued at $1500-2000 and worth it.
