Stout, sharp, glassy, translucent baryte spear points, dominated by the impressive 6.1 x 5.5 x 1.3 cm point are very aesthetically set on the spare matrix on this outstanding 360-degree small cabinet. This is classic and old-time baryte from the historic Ag-polymetallic at Felsobanya. The mine operated continuously from the 1300s until 2006 (MINDAT). From a 19th century Zurich collection and comes with a rare old pre-1878 label noting Hungary at the time. Romania was part of Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1878, when Romania was recognized by the Great Powers as an independent state (Wikipedia). This impressive piece compares favorably with classic Cumbria, England barytes and is MUCH rarer! Simply an exceptional old-time Romanian baryte and a major historic specimen!
