Item Description
Muddy Creek is one of Colorado's finest localities for barytes. This sculptural and rich large plate is richly covered, jackstraw style, with numerous tabular baryte blades. The striking large, dominating, stout blade at one end is 5.2 cm on edge. The glassy and lustrous gray tabular blades are translucent to transparent. The back side of the large crystal hosts a striking blue-gray interior phantom, adding much character. All of the many blades in the interior except for one small one are pristine. The large horizontal crystal, 4.0 cm long, was broken and is recrystallized. Interesting ghostly white LW UV fluorescence. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. These were collected in the late 1970s. A very fine, rich and showy large baryte from the well-known locale.
