Item Description
Intergrown, blocky, lustrous, translucent, honey-brown, barite crystals form a showy and aesthetic barite specimen from Montana. The striking, large, dominating crystal is 3.8 cm on the diagonal. Many of the crystals have a preferential secondary barite overgrowth giving them a striking variegated frosted look. A bit of periphery wear is noted, but certainly nothing to detraction. A high quality example of the species and locale. This excellent piece has multiple display views. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9401 and purchased from Mark Rogers in 1981 at the MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Valued at $600-750.
