Item Description
A really sculptural and weird old specimen of Baryte, on galena matrix, this old-time combination piece is from the venerable Marienberg mining district, where Silver mining extends back over 400 years. The Galena is basically subhedral, and the tan, lustrous Baryte blades reach almost 2.4 cm. The Barytes even have a soft fluorescence to them. Considering the age, it remarkable that the Baryte has but one chip, and that has little effect on the appearance and presentation of this small cabinet specimen. These pieces are part of a century-old Italian collection that was recently acquired. Its historic nature, aside from the sheer age of the specimens, is reflected in how dramatically geopolitical borders have changed since these labels were created.
