Item Description
This is a gorgeous, and hard to find CABINET sized Baryte specimen from the well-known White Raven Mine in Boulder County, Colorado. The distinctive, chalky white, somewhat thick Baryte crystals are a classic representation from this old silver producer. The largest crystal measures 1.5 cm at its widest dimension. There are dozens upon dozens of small cuboctahedral, dark grey Galena crystals sprinkled all over the Barytes, a classic combo from this locality. The label states that the Baryte and Galena crystals are sitting ON Siderite, but this doesn't seem to be the case, as I can see tiny compressed "discs" of Siderite which are preferentially coating select faces of the Baryte crystals, but nothing underneath. It's really difficult to find these specimens on the market, let alone in cabinet sized display specimens, and this piece is in amazingly good condition, as I can't find any major damage on the top/display side, just a few minor imperfections. A great piece to pick up for any collector of Boulder County material, or worldwide Barytes. Priced at $1,800 in our inventory. From the collection of Gary Weaver (1944-2019), an electrical engineer who worked for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens, focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
