Item Description

These excellent and distinctive Barytes date back to the early 2000s, when we started seeing these fine quality and well-crystallized specimens coming out of the now well-known Cerro Warihuyn locality in Peru. They are not just good for Peru, the best pieces are some of the most attractive Barytes to come out in the last 25 years from any locality. This piece is a beautiful and aesthetic display specimen of this gorgeous featuring sharp, lustrous, gemmy, tabular bladed crystals of a beautiful soft golden color aesthetically sitting on matrix. The Baryte crystals are in good shape, though there is a contacted edge on the lower portion, but otherwise damage-free. I love the balance and three-dimensional appeal of the specimen and it displays wonderfully as you can see from the video. Additionally, there is a bit of color zoning that can be seen when the crystals are backlit, not really "phantom", just different shades of golden which are darker on the edges and lighter towards the center. These pieces are now hard to find on the market, and certainly worth picking up if you collect Barytes, Peruvian minerals or fine display pieces. Valued $3,000.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#80 Pe), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
