The famous Baryte specimens from various localities in Cumbria in Northern England are some of the most classic, desirable and iconic examples of the species ever found. These specimens are featured in the collections of every major old museum mineral collection worldwide, along with countless private collections. This piece is a wonderful representation featuring sharp, lustrous, gemmy/translucent, pale grey-blue colored thick tabular crystals measuring up to 2.7 cm long, sitting on a thin layer of cream colored rhombic Dolomite underneath. Most of the Barytes are in good shape, but there are a few dings, so the piece is not 100% damage free. Still a very attractive example of these old classics that date back to the 1800s.
