Item Description

Here we have a showy and fine quality specimen of the classic golden Barytes from the famous Pöhla-Tellerhäuser Mine. This full sized miniature hosts groups of very lustrous, gemmy, rich golden color, bladed crystals with individual crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm that have formed "rose"-esque groups aesthetically sitting on reddish to smoky colored Quartz matrix. The crystals are pristine as far as I can see with the naked eye. These specimens were mined a few decades ago, and are not terribly common on the market anymore. The label accompanying the piece states that it was found in the 1339 Block of the mine.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#404 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
