Item Description

An impressive large two-generation barite specimen from this well-known old extinct Pb-Zn-Ag mine in the historic Freiberg District. Sculptural parallel-growth clusters of large glassy, translucent blades have striking jagged sawtooth terminations. Glassy second generation brown barite microcrystals along the crystal edges add real pizzazz to this dramatic, totally different two-sided piece. Ghostly white fluorescence. The bit of bruising along the topline and partially broken topline of the secondary barite cluster are noted, but have minimal impact to the high quality of this very fine old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2501 and acquired in May, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017).
