Item Description

Striking, beautiful, rich greenish-blue, glassy, transparent to translucent parallel-growth barite prisms with satin luster faces form a sculptural large specimen from the famous deposits at Stoneham. Two of the crystals have textbook chisel terminations with the other having a very steep termination. The variably sized prisms make this a fine piece. The one clean repair and the subtle bruise to the steep termination are certainly only modest detractions. Barite has been known from this classic Colorado locale since the 1870s and this specimen was self-collected by Dallas mineral dealer, Doug Wallace, in the 1980s. A showy and excellent large highly representative example of the species from the locale. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020.
