Baryte and Fluorite (old find)

Item Description

Two, striking, stout, intergrown, tabular, baryte prisms with sparkly druzy quartz coatings are dramatically set on the matrix plate of druzy quartz covered matrix of glassy, translucent, massive, pastel-green fluorite. The doubly terminated spearpoint is 7.5 cm tall and the tabular, tapered prism is 6.6 cm on edge. The spearpoint has only very trivial termination bruising and the outside edge of the tabular baryte is cleaved. These are certainly very minimal detractions to the impressive and sculptural large combination from the less well-known lead-zinc-fluorite Taolin Mine of Hunan, China. Purple LW UV fluorite fluorescence. The mine is better known for fluorite and sphalerite specimens. The Taolin Mine was commercially active from 1956 to 2001, making this very fine older and uncommon Chinese baryte from the locale. Specimens like this are from the 1980s or early 1990s and are simply not on the market.
