Item Description

A large and hefty bladed Baryte specimen from old finds in Romania, with large transparent to translucent crystals. There are numerous, glassy, tabular Barytes on this piece from 3 to 6 cm across and all them average just under 1 cm in thickness. The edges of the crystals are either wedge-shaped or flat depending on crystallography. The edges of the crystals are colorless and gemmy with the interiors of them having a greenish cast. Close inspection reveals the greenish tint to be attributed tiny, almost microscopic Pyrite crystals at the interior of the crystals to within about 4 or 5 cm of the edge where the crystals are colorless. All of this imparts a zoning to the big Baryte crystals. There is essentially no bruising to the blades and there is only one compromised crystal on the back of the piece, the bottom is contacted where it was removed from the vein. This is a big and heavy specimen from a classic, historic locality. Immediately recognizable but seldom seen in this ridiculous size, and in such good condition! Valued $2500.
