Item Description

A classic example Baryte from the Niederschlema in the Ore Mountains of Germany. This small cabinet sized specimen features lustrous, well-formed, sharp bladed crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm associated with Ankerite on matrix. The crystals have a muted golden-brown hue on the surface, and the label states that they are radioactive, though I have not seen that reported on any other Barytes from this locality. Good quality overall, very little damage and showy.
From the collection of Kay Robertson (#4976). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
