Item Description

The Eagle Mine in Colorado is one of two top-tier localities for golden Baryte crystals from Colorado. The other locality is the famous Sherman Mine in Leadville, and while the Eagle Mine crystals tend to be a bit smaller, they are often gemmier than their cousins from Leadville. This piece is from the 17 Level of the Eagle Mine and is fine small cabinet sized display specimen of this classic material. Several very sharp, lustrous, gemmy, beautiful golden colored, thick tabular crystals of Barite measuring up to 8 mm are associated with compressed rhombic Siderite. A few tiny imperfections can be seen, but there is very little damage and the piece is really attractive in person. You just can't get these anymore, and if you collect Colorado or cabinet sized display pieces, don't pass this one up as they have completely disappeared from the market. From the collection of Lee B. Burnett of Morrison, Colorado.
