Item Description

Baryte is a rare mineral species from the old upper oxidized zone at the Tsumeb Mine.This rather large, honey-brown Baryte cluster exhibits good luster and distinct phantoms. These attractive Baryte crystals are lustrous, transparent to translucent with the largest crystal measuring 4.5 cm with the other crystals in the cluster measuring from 1 to 3.5 cm. The crystals are all spear-shaped and moderately thick, between 0.5 to 1.0 cm and the color is a vibrant and captivating honey-brown. The internal phantoms are distinct and more apparent in the larger crystal with a brown core followed by a lighter brown one and then the remainder is honey-brown with a thin, 2 mm darker zone near the periphery of the crystal. This is an excellent example of Baryte from this classic locality. An important example. rare in this aesthetic quality. Valued $1000-plus.
