Item Description

A big, showy, hefty, robust group of excellent, sharp, bladed, soft pinkish colored Baryte crystals from the Bäuerin Mine, near Frohnau in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) of Saxony, Germany. The largest individual Baryte measures approximately 6.0 cm on edge. The piece is notably damage-free, which is hard to find in a specimen this size, obviously it's contacted around the periphery, but it's in remarkably fine condition with regard to the central crystals. The Barytes have a brilliant reflective luster on certain faces, and my favorite aspect is the beautiful thin "frosted" tips on the edges. A very impressive and highly displayable example of these wonderful Barytes from a mine that dates back to 1523 !! Valued at $2,400 retail. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#575 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
