Item Description
A hard to find Barysilite specimen from the famous Franklin Mining District in New Jersey. Some areas of pearly white Barysilite are associated with Nasonite. The brownish areas are what I assume to be Andradite. We have photographed the Barysilite with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. There are not many localities in the world for this rare lead manganese silicate, and despite the type locality being in Sweden, Franklin produced some of the finest specimens extant. The piece came to Rich Kosnar from his mentor, noted New Jersey collector Pat Gross, and her original black plastic mounting box accompanies the piece. A cool specimen of this classic material.
