Item Description
Barrerite is a very rare zeolite species, found in less than two dozens localities in the world. Even though the type locality for the species is in Italy, the best and most well-known examples of the species are those from Kuiu Island in Alaska. This is an elegant and showy display specimen loaded with compresssed, platy, white, slightly gemmy, tabular, pseudo-hexagonal (orthorhombic) crystals of Barrerite on host rock matrix. The largest crystal measures 7 mm on the display side, but there are some slightly larger incomplete crystals on the back. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1877) with a label from Italian dealer Daniele Respino. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
