Item Description

Barkevikite is an obsolete name for a dark amphibole from pegmatites in the Langesundsfjord area of Norway. The composition of barkevikite corresponds to several species within the range ferroedenite-hastingsite-magnesiohastingsite, depending on and varying from locality to locality. The mineral is quite rare, worldwide. All sides of this very rich and showy specimen from an unknown locality in Fresno County, California consist of lustrous, jet-black lathes of barkevikite in a contrasting matrix of quartz and feldspar. Ex Dennis Mullane Collection and comes with an older faded label with the name Beach and a January, 1950 date. Extremely rare from this locale and essentially unknown to the market.
