Item Description
A fantastic old-time classic specimen of the famous Clarashall Mine Barites featuring sharp, glassy, bladed, gemmy, colorless crystals associated with rarely seen bright red micro Cinnabar. Usually you see Cinnabar INCLUSIONS with these Barites, but this piece has the Cinnabar actually sitting atop the Barite crystals. You don't see many pieces from this mine on the market, since it closed in 1974, but they are truly some of the better quality Barites you'll find from any German locality. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
