Item Description
Barite is not often found in fine gem crystals that can yield good stones, and typically the good gem crystals are colorless, so the stones aren't terrible attractive. The world-class Barites from Elk Creek, South Dakota are among the most beloved and popluar Barite specimens from any locality in the Western Hemisphere. The gem in this set is arguably the better of the two as it weighs over 22 carats, and has that classic, rich golden-honey color with a "Modified Step Shield" cut and virtually eye clean clarity. The specimen features a few crystals (two of which are doubly terminated), which measure up to 3.8 cm, and have excellent sharp faces, great external luster and wonderful internal gemminess. Together, they comprise a lovely rough and cut set of this classic American material. Personally, this is one of my favorite sets in the auction this week. Together, they are valued at $3200.
