Item Description

Although Barite is a common species, it's notably difficult to find specimens from Freiberg. I can honestly only remember having a few of note to offer over the years. This piece is a very good showy and showy display specimen featuring HIGHLY lustrous, sharp, gemmy / translucent bladed crystals of Barite free of matrix. The crystals are essentially white (the show the tiniest blue color in certain lighting) and the largest group measures up to 4.3 cm at its longest dimension. The vast majority of the crystals are well-terminated, but there are few contacts and nicks here and there. If you search on mindat.org for Barite from Freiberg, you'll see there are only 4 specimens listed, so this is a great opportunity to pick up a fine example of these rare Barites from this world-famous locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10289). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
