Item Description

Barite specimens from the lesser known Roger Quarries in Paraíba, Brazil are seldom seen on the market these days. They are distinct in their form, color and underlying sedimentary matrix, but it's the overall quality that makes them so desirable. This piece features a beautiful semi-"rosette"-shaped group of very sharp, highly lustrous, silvery-brown colored tabular blades measuring up to 4.1 cm across on a thin layer of matrix. Nearly all of the crystals are undamaged and the piece actually sits well on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A showy and fine quality large miniature / small cabinet specimen of this uncommon material from Brazil. I would put a value on this around $800-$1,000. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
