Item Description

Barite isn't the first thing that people think of when it comes to Brazilian minerals, but this country has such a wide variety of minerals, even fine Barites are found. This is one of the most aesthetic and attractive Barites I've seen from Joao Pessoa for two reasons. First, the quality and size of the crystals is excellent for the locality, with sharp, lustrous faces and a beautiful light golden color. Second is the fact that the Barite is ON MATRIX, which is almost never seen from this locality. Fine quality, virtually undamaged with crystals measuring up to 3.5 cm, and even has a tiny bit of accenting Limonite pseudomorphs after Pyrite on the underlying matrix. Showy, rare (for Brazil) and a very worthwhile pickup for anybody interested in the material. If you collect Barites, Brazilian minerals or just cool display pieces, don't miss out on this one. This piece comes from an old East Coast collection with a label from legendary recently deceased collector, Larry Conklin.
