Item Description
So called, extremely elongated "finger" barite of this style is quite rare from the famous iron mines of Cumbria. The sharply terminated, gemmy and lustrous, bi-colored crystal has a blade-like, very glassy, colorless termination. The greenish-yellow body has about a 1.5 cm desirable light blue section at the base with the nicely accenting matrix. The side car crystal adds real panache, even with the broken ends and undamaged contact impression on the large crystal. One side of the termination has an impression, where another barite crystal once lay and one edge has only the most trivial of bruising. Complete all-around and in outstanding condition, for such an old-time rarity. This fine classic barite certainly dates to prior to World War I. it shoudl value at around $900-1200. Ex Sal Avella Collection.
