Item Description

An impressive large mounded combination specimen covered with glassy, translucent, white to colorless barite spearpoints. Many of the blades are intergrown, parallel-growth clusters with striking sawtoothed edges. The core is gray to tan massive banded witherite. This showy and excellent piece is from a classic England locality - the Settlingstones Mine, Northumberland. This uncommon combination piece is in very fine shape, with only a few gently bruised barite blades and the noted periphery wear. Historic, old-time material, probably around 100 years old or older. Variable yellow witherite fluorescence. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and purchased from E & R Crystals in Los Altos, CA in 1973. Valued $500.
