Item Description

Super-glassy, water-clear to translucent, colorless barite blades to 2.5 cm cover the mounded matrix of massive barite on this very rich, showy and uncommon specimen from a less well-known Connecticut locale - Cheshire, New Haven County. A bit of bruising is noted, but this is extremely rich, highly representative and uncommon material from this locale. It is probably from the heyday of mining here in the mid to late 1800s. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection.
