Item Description

The Black Cloud Mine is well known for its sulfide specimens, but it has also produced some of the most classic Barites from any locality in Colorado. These famous specimens from Leadville are icons, and highly sought after by collectors. Here we have a beautiful small cabinet specimen filled with dozens of sharp, lustrous, golden colored, "chisel"-shaped, Barite crystals measuring up to 4 mm sprinkled all over the beige colored Dolomite on underlying matrix. This specimen is about 40 years old (early 1980s). The vast majority of crystals are undamaged. You can't find these anymore on the market, they've all but disappeared.
