Item Description

An attractive specimen featuring gemmy, sharp, lustrous, golden Barite crystals on matrix from the famous Meikle Mine. If you look closely, you'll see selective overgrowth of dozens of tiny grey colored Calcites on top of the original deposition of the golden crystals. The largest Barite crystal measures 4.0 cm across, and this rather thick compared to the other crystals on the piece. Good quality, classic material and hard to photograph, and I would say better in person. Priced at $1,250 in the inventory. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
