Item Description

Barite is not often found in fine gem crystals, and typically the good gem crystals are colorless. The world-class Barites from Elk Creek, South Dakota are among the most beloved and popluar Barite specimens from any locality in the Western Hemisphere for their unique crystal habit, color and the fact that many of them are GEM QUALITY! This crystal is a stout, well-forme, beautiful rich glowing amber-golden color crystal free of matrix. The crystal is WATER CLEAR in the upper portion, and looks beautiful when backlit. No major damage (only tiny imperfections) outside of the base of the piece where it was removed from the pocket wall. Priced in our inventory at $1,800. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
