Item Description

The Barite specimens from Stanisławów are among the finest quality examples of the species from any locality in continental Europe. This piece is a wonderful older example of these classic Barites featuring excellent, very sharp, highly lustrous, GEMMY, colorless to soft orange-golden colored (from iron oxide inclusions) bladed crystals of Barite measuring up to 3.4 cm long sitting on very minor matrix. Overall the Barites are in excellent shape, with very little damage, and the piece is actually quite showy with more pronounced free-standing crystals than I'm used to seeing from the locale. If you look closely, you can see the that iron oxide has formed beautiful internal "phantoms" inside the crystals, creating a very pleasing effect. Priced at $1,200 in the inventory. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0291) who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
