Barite (ex Willard Wulff Collection)

This locality has produced some of the most classic and easily recognizable Barite specimens from anywhere in the United States. The beautiful blue color combined with the excellent quality of the crystals makes them a Colorado classic. This piece features prismatic crystals of sharp, fairly thick, gemmy / translucent blue Barite in parallel growth. The specimen is in great condition overall. This thumbnail comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. The piece comes mounted in a "Perky" box from Wulff with a hand-written label on the base.
