Item Description

The Black Cloud mine is well known for it's sulfide specimens, but it has also produced some of the classic "golden" Barite for which the Leadville Mining District is renowned. Here we have an attractive display piece featuring a 6 mm group of gemmy, lustrous, bladed golden Barite crystals on white Dolomite sitting atop mixed sulfide matrix. This specimen is from the famous Colorado collection of Rich Kosnar, and his hand-written label is attached to the bottom of the piece. According to the label, the specimen was collected in 1979. This area has produced some of the finest Barites from Colorado, and these specimens are highly sought after by Colorado collectors.
