Item Description

A beautiful and highly aesthetic display piece of these now classic Barites from Peru. This piece was mined circa 2003-2004. It features a group of sharp, lustrous, gemmy, tabular bladed Barite crystals of a pastel golden color sitting on the underlying matrix. The entire crystal group measures 4.6 cm across. For the most part, the piece is in good shape, but there is a contacted area on the back of the Barite group. I love the balance and three-dimensional appeal of the specimen as it displays wonderfully as you can see from the photos. These pieces are now hard to find on the market, and certainly worth picking up if you collect Barites, Peruvian minerals or cabinet display pieces. Priced at $850 in the inventory. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0362) who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
