Item Description

From the famous find in 2005 in Peru, here we have a classic display specimen of these beautiful Barites. The piece features a few fine quality, sharp, tabular, lustrous, gemmy, grey-blue color Barite crystals aesthetically sitting on pink Dolomite matrix. These Barite crystals are known from this locality for their amazing habit and color, and stand out on a worldwide scale for their superior form and quality. This is a great piece from this well known discovery. These specimens were fairly common on the market at one point, but now are quite hard to find for sale. The largest individual Barite on the piece measures 3.4 cm. The left edge of the crystal is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall, but overall the piece is in excellent condition. Don't be fooled, the little stepped modifications on edge of the crystal are not damage, they are fully crystallized. Valued around $750-$950 in today's market. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
