Item Description

The Barites from Stoneham are some of the most classic and easily recognizable Barite specimens from anywhere in the United States or the world for that matter. The distinctive blue color along with the fine crystallization and excellent gemminess of the crystals is iconic. This piece was found in the late 1980s and features a group of parallel crystals with sharp, well-formed faces and that classic blue color which really comes through when the piece is backlit. Additional crystals at the base give the piece a good three-dimensional quality. No real damage that I can see on the display side. It's complete all the way around, and the central portion of the larger crystals is quite gemmy when backlit. These specimens are rarely seen on the market now and are true classics from Colorado. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0413) who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
