Item Description

A superb large cabinet display specimen of these famous old Barites from Cavnic. The piece is loaded with hundreds of razor-sharp, highly lustrous, soft bluish-grey colored bladed crystals of Barite measuring up to 1.4 cm which are intergrown to create "rosette"-like groups covering nearly the entire surface of the underlying host rock. It should be noted that the Barites show more of grey-white hue in the photos, but I can see a blue tint with the naked eye.  A few minor contacts are visible, but the overall quality and presentation of the piece is superb. This area is well-known for producing some superb examples of Barite in a varied array of colors, and this piece would make a stellar addition to any Barite suite or a collection of minerals from this famous Bronze Age mining district. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. The piece is accompanied by a label from noted rare species dealer, Josef Vajdak.
