Item Description

The famous Sherman Mine in Leadville produced some of the most impressive golden Barite specimens from Colorado. Unfortunately this locality closed a few decades ago, and all of the specimens dried up on the market, so they are coveted and highly prized by Colorado collectors. They simply aren't seen on the market today, like most great U.S. classics. This small cabinet sized specimen features some excellent, fairly thick, lustrous, translucent, golden color Barite crystals measuring up to 3.1 cm with no matrix. Most Barites from the Sherman were more pale in color, and the crystals were not this thick, so this an impressive piece of this old material. A great Colorado classic from the late 1970s. Most crystals are in good shape, though the piece is contacted around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall.
