Item Description

An outstanding and important old-time combination piece from the historic mines at Freiberg and the collection of Dr. Victor Goldschmidt, renowned German professor, mineralogist and author (1853-1933). Sparkly chalcopyrite crystals are festooned on three striking, intergrown oval clusters of lustrous, pastel-pink, parallel-growth barite blades. The barites rest on a bed of sharp quartz points and the base of the quartz is littered with more tiny chalcopyrites! A very aesthetic display piece, that displays great from either side. This is a significant historical piece from a great mineralogist's collection. Ex Herb Obodda Collection # 2848. We have never even seen original Goldschmitt labels before!!! This is from a small, rare trove that Herb found in Germany decades ago. Valued $1000-1500, in part for provenance and in part for its own aesthetics
