Item Description

Bariandite is an extremely rare aluminum vanadium oxide only found in six localities around the world. The species was approved in 1970 and was named after Dr. Pierre Bariand the beloved former Curator of Mineralogy at the University of Paris. This piece is from the type locality for the species and features a group consisting of thin, fibrous, dark, semi-metallic black colored crystals is somewhat radial or "spray"-like forms. A great piece for any rarities collector of a collector of species from the type locality! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8587). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
