Dramatically colorful, large banded Opal from the famous Thomas Range of Utah - a seemingly unique style of matrix opal, and particularly interesting for a USA locality. The 360-degree glassy and lustrous piece has striking layers of red, yellow, white and lavender opal. The white and yellow on the top looks like a fried egg! The Thomas Range is better known for outstanding Topaz, Bixbyite and Pseudobrookite specimens. Ex Cook Collection. We feel very lucky to have picked up the large collection of Bill and Anne Cook of Cleveland, recently. It is a tribute to their long efforts, how many interesting minerals and old localities were preserved and carefully labelled so you can see them now. Bill and Anne collected for at least 60 years. Certainly most exotic opal from the well-known locale. A must for the species or locality collector!
