Fantastically colorful, RARE style banded opal from an unknown locality in San Luis Potosi State, Mexico. Amazing dense, lustrous banding of rich hues of red and orange capped by thicker bands of yellow and white dramatize this incredibly scuptural, colorful and rare piece. Exceptional and rare opa. from the Kay Robertson Collection, with no number. Kay assembled a small sub collection of notable agate and quartz specimens. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). It reminds me of the layered sedimentary cliffs in the Grand Canyon! 60 grams mass. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
