Item Description
Carnelian is classified as a variety of red/orange Chalcedony, which is in turn, a variety of Quartz. There are many different names for varieties of cryptocrystalline / massive Quartz, but they fit into specific categories in terms of their color and appearance. Most Carnelian you will see is translucent, and the best stones will glow with color when backlit. Here we have a beautiful matched pair of "Marquise Cabochon" cut gems from West Java, Indonesia featuring a predominantly reddish-orange hue throughout the body of the stones, but one end of each gem has fantastic, well-defined "bands" that range in color from brown to creamy golden, orange and white hues. Excellent quality and beautiful coloring/patterns that would make for a fantastic set of earrings.
