Babingtonite, Prehnite, and Calcite on Quartz (rare USA classic !)

From one of the most venerable localities in New England, and the association of Babingtonite with Prehnite almost immediately invokes thoughts of the old textbook location at the Lane & Sons Traprock quarries. This attractive and classic small cabinet specimen features 1.3 cm, bladed Babingtonite crystals associated with highly translucent, mint-green Prehnites to 1.7 cm. Adding to this are golden Calcites to 2.2 cm that also fluoresce red. All rest on a layer of crystalline, gemmy Quartz that covers the basalt matrix, for a whol ecombination of the minerals of the location on one display specimen. The Lane & Son traprock quarries are certainly among the most famous Babingtonite localities in the United States, and Westfield Babingtonites were the world's finest and highly prized until the recent Chinese finds. From the Earle C. Sullivan collection, who self-collected this impressive combination piece in 1940, according to the Lemanski collecton catalog. This is as fine an example rfom this old quarry as we have seen for sale, and is better than the well-known Barlow specimen (Barlow Collection book) which we once handled as well. This should be valued highly among those who have always wanted such a thing, and at least $2500 seems fair as a general guide. You will not see another this fine for sale in decades, I would bet.
