Item Description
When it comes to Azurite, there are a few world localities that immediately spring to mind in terms of the best quality specimens. Over the last 15 years or so, the specimens from Milpillas have risen into the ranks of some of the finest examples of this beloved species ever found. The best specimens from this loclaity are some of the sharpest, most lustrous and richly colored (often gemmy) crystals of Azurite from anywhere Sadly, the oxidized zone is finished, and it is likely that we may never see another crumb of this material to come out of this prolific locality again. With that said, if you're a fan of Azurites or specifically these pieces from Milpillas, don't miss out on this attractive small cabinet display specimen. The piece is filled with excellent quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, bladed, intense midnight blue crystals of Azurite which have formed into a semi-"rose"-shaped group which are accented by and partially pseudomorphing into velvety forest green Malachite here and there. The full group of crystals measures 5.0 cm long. The piece is in excellent condition, with no major damage to the main crystal group. The piece has been sawed on the base, so it sits up on its own without the aid of the base or clay. The classic color combination of the Azurite with the Malachite is a truly iconic in the mineral world and you can see where the two mix together on the specimen to create additional hues, and not just plain blue and green. If you're a fan of copper-bearing minerals, secondary ore minerals or just world wide Azurites, pick this one up, as they are fast disappearing from the market. Originally valued in our inventory at $2,500.
