Item Description

Some of the greatest Azurite and Malachite association specimens found in the modern age of mineral collecting are those from the Mine, Guichi District of Anhui, China. These specimens compare quite favorably to the beautiful pieces from classic localities in Arizona that were found long ago, or even the historic specimens from Chessy, France dating back to the 1800s. This piece is a wonderful representation of these contemporary classics featuring a coverage of beautiful sparkling, deep royal blue colored Azurite crystals associated with banding of mint-green Malachite along with one vug that hosts small acicular "tufts" of forest-green Malachite on the side of the specimen. Good condition all around, and that classic blue and green combination is one of the most recognized associations in the world of mineral collecting. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007. You can read Steve's bio on the Mineralogical Record website ( https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/smalestephen/ ) or on Wikipedia.
