Item Description
When it comes to Azurite, there are a few world localities that immediately spring to mind in terms of the best quality specimens. Over the last 15 years or so, the specimens from Milpillas have risen into the ranks of some of the finest examples of this beloved species ever found. The best specimens from this locality are some of the sharpest, most lustrous and richly colored (often gemmy) crystals of Azurite from anywhere Sadly, the oxidized zone is finished, and it is likely that we may never see another crumb of this material to come out of this prolific locality again. With that said, if you're a fan of Azurites or specifically these pieces from Milpillas, don't miss out on this attractive miniature display specimen. The piece features a predominant 2.0 cm crystal of Azurite elegantly perched atop velvety forest green Malachite and minor host rock matrix. The Azurite is excellent quality, with very sharp, highly lustrous faces and an intense midnight blue color. Additional Azurites can be seen on the back of the specimen. The piece is in good condition, with no major damage to the main crystal, though I can see one tiny little nick. The classic color combination of the Azurite with the Malachite is truly iconic in the mineral world. If you're a fan of copper-bearing minerals, secondary ore minerals or just world wide Azurites, pick this one up, as they are fast disappearing from the market. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
