Item Description

Azurite with Malachite is one of the most classic mineral combinations in the world. There are hundreds of localities where these two secondary copper minerals have been found together, but Bisbee, Arizona stands out as one of the top tier places for this association extant. This piece is a wonderful cabinet sized display piece featuring dozens of beautiful, strong blue colored, botryoidal aggregates of Azurite measuring up to 7 mm across, associated with soft minty green flowing Malachite forms, sitting on oxidized matrix. The piece looks beautiful from both sides, as there are good number of Azurite "balls" to be seen, and the piece is in fine condition all around, as I can't find any major damage, only minor imperfections. This piece is likely over 100 years old, and is a fantastic specimen of this world-renowned material.
Valued $6,000.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 16.1.11 AZ.14; 6197. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
